Massage in pregnancy, but why?


Becoming pregnant can be one of the greatest blessing in a woman's life, and for some, the journey to become pregnant isn't easy or without loss. For those women who are in their conception journey, I honour you. With pregnancy comes the joy of new life and another little human you can have around you for the rest of your life. People tell you about the "glow", the clear skin, the enlarged bosoms that arrive at your destination 5 minutes before the rest of you does and all those highlights that are just so "awwwwwww"

However, there are the not so great parts of pregnancy, like morning sickness, headaches, heartburn, back ache, shoulder aches, swelling, constant sinus blockages, sciatica, hormonal changes, anxiety.... do I need to continue?

But what if I was to tell you that I can help relieve most of those discomforts?

Massage is great at the best of times. It helps settle down our minds and bodies and helps us connect back into the reality that we are in now. Living in the present, just as mindfulness does.

And I don't need to mention how great a massage is for those aches and pains of everyday life, after running events, a hard workout, the stress of the week. It makes life better.

NOW, what if we added the greatness of massage, with all its benefits to pregnancy, where a woman's body is literally being stretched to its greatest capacity to help nurture new life. The results are incredible.

But what is Pregnancy massage??

Pregnancy massage is a particular branch of massage therapy, in where massage therapist must undergo extra training to fully understand the dynamics of pregnancy, the stressors on the body and how to facilitate massage as the body changes. They also must learn about safe practice, ensuring that every technique, essential oil, acupressure point and position the client is in, is not only safe, but also helpful and effective.

SO in what ways does it help?

  • Reduces back pain.

  • Reduces sciatica symptoms.

  • Reduces joint pain.

  • Relieves and reduces cramping.

  • Improves circulation.

  • Reduces oedema or swelling.

  • Reduces muscle tension and stiffness.

YES! It is SAFE for all stages of pregnancy. If you have a high risk pregnancy, it is advised to ask your prenatal team before starting massage therapy, so that we can formulate the massage treatments to best suit the high risk needs.
